Information on 2011-2012 GISCA Tournament Location

Due to increasing prices and limited availability at the temporary Jekyll Island Convention Center, Golden Isles Scholastic Chess Association was required to consider other venues for the 2011-2012 Grand Prix Season.

Fortunately Mr. Matthew Blackstone, Principal of Glynn Middle School, very graciously offered Glynn Middle School to GISCA.

While having to leave, GISCA very much appreciates the support that Jekyll Island has provided to the scholastic chess community over the last eight years.

Information about Glynn Middle School

Glynn Middle School is well known for students' academic, fine arts, and athletic achievements. It is a National School of Excellence, a Title I School of Distinction and a State Gold Medal Award Winner for Greatest Gains in Student Achievement.  The $23 million state-of-the art facility opened on August 6, 2009.  The students of Glynn Middle School have the opportunity to participate in numerous clubs (including chess) and athletic endeavors.  Student enrollment during the 2010-2011 school year was 1117 students.

Glynn Middle School should be easier (and less expensive) to reach that the Jekyll Island Convention Center, although many online map services show the former and/or other incorrect locations for the school.
